
Frank Woody, pictured here in 1910 in front of Worden’s 1860 tradiing post, clerked for Worden and accompanied Higgins and Worden to establish HellgateVillage in 1860. During his long life in Missoula, Woody became the town’s first mayor and also served as postmaster, clerk and recorder, probate judge, and finally district court judge. He also was a newspaper editor, historian, and president of the Montana Historical Society.
