Christopher Power Higgins, shown here circa 1879, came to the MissoulaValley in the mid-1850’s as wagon master for the Stevens survey. In 1860, he founded HellgateVillage and five years later, Missoula Mills, which became Missoula. He also served as president of Missoula’s first bank. (UM 69-70)
