THEN ~ Downtown Missoula / Wilma

Missoula and The WilmaDowntown Missoula, looking north from the Penwell Building at Higgins and Third Street, 1924. The Wilma Theater, to the left, had just been completed in 1920 as a theater with residences above and a swimming pool below. The First National Bank Building on the right was completed in 1891; just in front of it is the power plant that provided power and steam heat to many downtown buildings. Also visible are the first Central School, First Methodist Church, and the county hospital. (94-1516, R. H. McKay Photographs, K. Ross Toole Archives, The University of MontanaMissoula)

NOW ~ Downtown Missoula / Wilma

Missoula and The Wilma - nowCars gliding across a wider bridge have replaced streetcars in this image. The Wilma is intact, but the First National Bank’s building was razed in 1962, along with the old power plant. The Millennium Building, containing offices and residences, became part of the skyline in 2000.  (Photo by Marcy James, 2007)
